My First Gig

My first gig happened this past Saturday, at my mother-in-law’s 25th wedding anniversary.  I played music for about 4 hours, and was told I did a very nice job.  While there, I got an unofficial request to play at a wedding in August.  This was then confirmed afterwards.

For this first gig, I purchased all of the songs, because I didn’t yet own anything that was requested.  It cost me $64 to have this show. It also took almost 6 hours, including set up and tear down. At my normal rate of $25/hour, this job cost me $214.  Not a good start, but the fact that it lead in to a second job was worth it. Plus, I had a good time :)

The equipment I used was all mine.  The speakers, a set of Polk Audio Monitor 50s; the receiver, a harman/kardon AVR-146; a generic computer with iTunes (which will be replaced ASAP).

I’m looking to replace the computer with a Linux box, and the sound card with one that has Optical audio out.  Right now, it’s either a Turtle Beach, or a Sound Blaster.

I’ll get the song list updated in the coming days.
